She is Professor of Catalysis at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Western Macedonia (UoWM), Greece, and Director of the Laboratory of Alternative Fuels & Environmental Catalysis (LAFEC). She is also a member of the Scientific Council of the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.). Her research focuses on clean energy catalysis, including hydrogen and syngas production, CO₂ valorisation, renewable diesel, catalytic biomass upgrading, and pollution control.
She holds a BSc and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Patras and has over 30 years of research experience at CERTH/CPERI, ICEHT, ITESK, and the University of Thessaly. She has coordinated or participated in numerous European and national projects in sustainable fuels and energy transition, securing more than €3M in funding for LAFEC.
Prof. Goula has authored over 120 journal papers, 175 international conference contributions, book chapters (Wiley, Elsevier), one book, and more than 50 technical reports. She has over 6,500 Scopus citations (h-index 44) and has been listed for five consecutive years (2019–2024) among the top 2% of scientists worldwide by Stanford University.
She serves as Section Editor-in-Chief for Discover Chemical Engineering, Frontiers in Fuels, and Catalysts, and sits on several international editorial boards. She is a frequent reviewer (1,000+ reviews) and evaluator for major EU and national funding programmes (Horizon Europe, MSCA, ELIDEK/H.F.R.I., ACS, NCN Poland, Cyprus RPF, Serbian Science Fund, Swiss NSF).
Prof. Goula collaborates extensively with universities and research centres across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East and has been a Visiting Professor at institutions including Delft University of Technology, Université Lyon 1, University of Surrey, University of Bologna, University of Aveiro, Zaragoza, Cyprus, and Khalifa University.
