GRIPHUS - Project - Green Innovative Photocatalytic systems for CO2 Utilization to produce e-fuelS

GRIPHUS aims to produce e-fuels by valorizing CO2 using advanced photocatalytic membrane reactors. The project will design, build, operate, and validate a lab-scale prototype of an advanced photocatalytic process assisted by membranes. It focuses on CO2 reuse as a carbon carrier in the fuel cycle, producing e-fuels like methanol through hydrogenation with green hydrogen. The project combines experimental and theoretical activities, including multiscale modeling and quantum chemical simulations. GRIPHUS promotes e-fuel production with positive environmental impacts, fostering a circular economy in the EU. It redefines CO2 as a resource for green-chemicals and e-fuels, enhancing photocatalytic reaction efficiency and providing sustainable solutions. The project's results will benefit SMEs and large industries, driving innovation and commercialization in the e-fuels sector.

RISEnergy - Project - Research Infrastructure Services for Renewable Energy

Research Infrastructure Services for Renewable Energy (RISEnergy) project is dedicated to fostering a long-term, coordinated research effort among leading private companies and research institutions to advance energy technologies within the EU.  RISEnergy targets the EU’s Horizon Europe Framework Programme topic focused on “Research infrastructure services to enable R&I addressing main challenges and EU priorities,’’ specifically addressing the sub-topic “RI services for renewable energy technologies and systems. In this regard, RISEnergy aims to integrate services provided through a network of energy-related research infrastructures (RIs) in both the EU and Associated Countries, namely in the fields of Photovoltaics (PV), Concentrated Solar Power (CSP)/ Solar Thermal Electricity (STE), Hydrogen, Biofuels, Wind Energy, Ocean Energy, Integrated Grids, Energy Storage, Material Science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The Italian branch of the International Association for Green Energy (IAGE) is a not-for-profit organisation that provides an educational and informational platform for networking and the exchange of knowledge between academia, research bodies, industry and society at large across all sectors of ‘green energy’.

It promotes the creation of an Italian scientific network aimed at fostering scientific development in the fields of renewable energy and sustainable energy production processes, whilst also striving to protect the environment and improve quality of life. It represents the Italian branch of the association’s international division.

As part of ICSET 2026 IAGE will organize a round table bringing together representatives from academia, research institutions, industry, and public stakeholders to discuss current challenges, emerging opportunities, and future perspectives in green energy technologies and sustainable energy systems

Ricerca di Sistema

RdS - 25-27 Special Sessions

The Ricerca di Sistema (RdS) is the instrument by which MASE finances research activity for innovation in the Italian energy sector. CNR, ENEA and RSE represent the three research groups financed by the MASE to carry out projects considered strategic for the growth of our country.

Special session - Electrochemical and Thermal Storage Technologies:
The integrated project "Electrochemical and Thermal Storage Technologies" (RdS PTR 2025–2027, Theme 1.2) is structured to cover the different segments of the storage systems value chain, in continuity with the previous three-year plan. Led by ENEA and carried out jointly with CNR, RSE and 25 Italian universities, the project pursues two main experimental lines: optimisation of mature technologies with a focus on reducing costs, improving reliability and sustainability and exploration of innovative or frontier storage solutions capable of meeting the growing demands of large-scale renewable energy integration.

Special session - Ammonia as a Hydrogen Carrier in the Energy Transition
The integrated project on Hydrogen Technologies and End Uses (RdS PTR 2025–2027, Theme 1.3) proposes an ambitious research programme addressing multiple technologies along the full hydrogen value chain from production to transport, storage and final uses with the aim of fostering a national industrial sector and contributing to the decarbonisation of the energy system. This contribution focuses on ammonia as a strategic hydrogen carrier, examining its production via green routes, catalytic cracking for hydrogen release, and its integration into structured reactor systems.
