Juergen Garche is Senior Professor at Ulm University, where he has held the position of Senior Professor of Electrochemistry since 2015.

He has around fifty years of experience in the fields of batteries — including lead-acid, Ni-MH, Li-ion and Na-ion systems — as well as fuel cells (PEMFC, DMFC) and electrolyzers (PEMEL).

Throughout his career, he has published 365 scientific papers, holds 10 patents, and is the author or editor of 10 books, among them the seven-volume second edition of the Encyclopedia of Electrochemical Power Sources.

He serves on the editorial boards of four journals dedicated to battery and fuel cell research and has been listed by Thomson Reuters among the “World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds.” He is also featured in the book Profiles of 93 Influential Electrochemists.

Professor Garche has held numerous visiting professorships at leading international institutions, including Shandong University in China, Sapienza University of Rome in Italy, TUM-CREATE in Singapore, the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics in China, and the CNR Institute for Advanced Energy Technologies in Messina, Italy. From 1993 to 2004, he served as General Manager of the Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion Division at the Center of Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) in Ulm. Since 2004, he has been Managing Director of FCBAT (Fuel Cell and Battery Consulting) in Ulm.

He has also acted as a consultant for numerous organizations and institutions, including the German Federal Ministry of Transport, the German National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Organization (NOW), the South African Department of Science and Technology, battery developers in several countries, and major automotive manufacturers such as BMW, Daimler, and Nissan.
