Lapa - CV

Nuno Lapa is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry of the NOVA School of Science and Technology, NOVA University Lisbon (Portugal), and an Integrated Researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE, the Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry. He holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from NOVA University Lisbon and has more than three decades of academic and research experience in the fields of sustainable energy, waste valorisation, and environmental engineering. 

His research focuses on biogas and bio-hydrogen production from biomass and organic wastes, the valorisation of residues into porous carbons for environmental and industrial applications, and the sustainability assessment of products and processes using life cycle-based methodologies such as LCA, LCC, and sLCA. 

He has coordinated and participated in several national and European research projects addressing circular economy, bioenergy, and decarbonisation strategies. He is the author of 95 Scopus-indexed scientific publications, with over 2,250 citations and an h-index of 27. He teaches in several MSc and PhD programmes at NOVA FCT in the areas of bioenergy, renewable energy engineering, and chemical and biological engineering, and supervises and co-supervises doctoral students. 

He is an Editorial Board Member of the journal Waste Management (Elsevier), has served as Associate and Guest Editor of other international journals, and regularly acts as an external expert for national and European research funding agencies.
