Santamaria - CV

Monica Santamaria holds a PhD in Electrochemical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (2001). She has been Full Professor of Applied Electrochemistry at the University of Palermo since 2010, where she leads an established electrochemistry research group comprising 15 researchers and PhD students.
Her research interests are centred on chemical and electrochemical surface functionalization for advanced applications, including corrosion protection, biomedical applications, energy conversion and storage, and electronics, as well as on (photo)electrochemical processes for green hydrogen and high–value added chemical production.
She has authored more than 190 peer-reviewed publications and 8 book chapters (h-index 35). Her distinctions include the Hans-Jürgen Engell Prize (2006), awarded by the International Society of Electrochemistry, and a prestigious Fellowship for Research in Japan awarded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in 2019. She served as President of the Electrochemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society (2023–2025) and currently holds the position of Past President. She has also served two consecutive terms as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society of Electrochemistry (2023–2028).
