In November 1981, he graduated with honors in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Palermo.

Since 2001, he has been a full professor of Materials Science and Technology.
He is an expert in polymer and composite materials technology and in recent years has focused on innovative sustainable materials. He is the author of over 200 technical and scientific publications.

He has developed and participated in numerous national and international scientific projects in collaboration with prestigious Italian and foreign universities. He collaborates with several companies on the use of functional materials with innovative production technologies.

At the University of Palermo, he has held numerous organizational positions: director of the Interdepartmental Center for Composite Materials, coordinator of the Degree Program in Building Systems Engineering; director of the Advanced Technologies Network (ATeN); and director of the Department of Engineering. He is currently the Director of the University Technology Transfer Center (UT2C) at the University of Palermo.
